Obama Camp Downplays Recent Success
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Barack Obama's campaign manager David Plouffe said the outcome of today's primaries in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. will not have an effect on upcoming contests.
"I don't think that it's about momentum, it's about reality and the math," Plouffe said on a conference call with reporters.
Plouffe and Gov. Jim Doyle, D-Wisc., disputed the notion that Obama has momentum from his slew of recent wins. Doyle said voters in Wisconsin are evaluating both Hillary Clinton and Obama, and are not affected by previous outcomes.
Plouffe described Wisconsin has a battleground state, and said the campaign is aggressively organizing in the state. He believes that the timing of the primary will give Obama an edge in Wisconsin because he has more time to campaign.
Doyle called Clinton "kind of an incumbent" and noted that Bill Clinton carried the state twice. "There is no doubt that Senator Obama has a tough challenge in Wisconsin," Doyle said. "Wisconsin is going to be a difficult and competitive race."
