Obama, Biden Cancel Appearances Due to Ike

(CBS)
From CBS News' Maria Gavrilovic:

(MANCHESTER, N.H.) Barack Obama canceled his appearance on Saturday Night Live tonight due to Hurricane Ike. The campaign said Obama did not deem it appropriate to appear on the show as a result of the "unfolding crisis" in Texas. SNL, creator-producer, Lorne Michaels, told Politico yesterday that they were prepared for Obama to pull out if Hurricane Ike became more serious.

Barack Obama was in contact with FEMA and Texas officials yesterday, as he was during Hurricane Gustav. Obama spoke to FEMA Administrator David Paulison early in the day, spoke to Houston Mayor Bill White in the evening. According to the campaign, White assured Obama that the city was prepared for the hurricane.

Joe Biden was set to appear at a rally here today with Obama, but he canceled because of the storm. Obama is expected to call on supporters to help raise funds for relief efforts.
