Oak Beach Bodies Update: More human remains near site of four bodies?
(CBS/AP) NEW YORK - Police are investigating possible human remains found on a Long Island barrier beach where the bodies of four online prostitutes were already discovered late last year.
A Suffolk County police spokesman says the remains were found Tuesday, east of the area where the original remains were discovered, during a daylong search of the area using helicopters and dogs.
The Medical Examiner is investigating. No other information was provided.
Officers were initially searching for Shannan Gilbert of New Jersey last December when they happened upon the bodies of four other women.
Gilbert was last seen in a shorefront community nearby.
Police theorize a serial killer may have been responsible for the deaths. No suspects have been identified.
