NYC teen charged in death of 2-year-old boy
(CBS/AP) NEW YORK - Police have charged a Brooklyn teen in the death of a 23-month-old he was looking after while the boy's mother was at work, reports CBS New York.
Tyree Wright, 19, was charged with felony assault and acting in a manner injurious to a child, and according to the New York Times, a spokesperson for the Kings County district attorney's office says there is a "good chance" the charges may be upgraded to murder.
According to the Times, the city's medical examiner's office says the boy's cause of death was "lacerations of the liver and pancreas with internal hemorrhage due to blunt-impact injuries."
The Times reports that according to police, the boy's mother left Wright alone with Jacqil Degraffenreid for approximately four hours on Saturday evening. When she returned home, she reportedly found the boy unresponsive. She called 911 and the boy died at the hospital. His death was ruled a homicide.
CBS New York reports that police say Wright is a friend of the child's mother.
