NY Giants players on scene of fatal club shooting
(CBS/AP) - New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz and other athletes were enjoying a night out at a posh New York night club early Tuesday morning, when a gunman burst into the establishment, firing shots and leaving two people wounded and one man dead.
Police say the shooting happened at around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday inside the Juliet Supper Club in Manhattan. Giants coach Tom Coughlin said Wednesday that Cruz was not injured in the shooting. The team is off on Tuesday so there was no curfew.
The New York Daily News reports that Cruz, along with fellow Giants Hakeem Nicks, cornerback Aaron Ross, safety Antrel Rolle and tackle Chris Canty were in the club as the shots were fired. But they were not near the scene and were not injured.
"There is nothing to indicate that any of the well-known individuals in the club that night had anything to do with the shooing," Paul J. Browne, the New York Police Department's chief spokesman, told the New York Times.
The Juliet Supper Club is a hotspot for athletes and celebrities. It was also the scene of a homicide earlier this year.
Police are still searching for the suspected gunman.
