North Koreans Enter U.S. Consulate
A North Korean entered the U.S. Consulate in northeastern China on Thursday, bringing to three the number of North Koreans inside the consulate.
The North Korean climbed over the wall of the consulate in the city of Shenyang, a spokeswoman for the facility said, speaking on customary condition of anonymity.
The spokeswoman wouldn't give any details about the North Korean's identity.
Two other North Koreans were already inside the consulate in Shenyang on Thursday, having climbed over the wall a day earlier.
"We're still working with the (U.S.) Embassy in Beijing and the Chinese government to resolve the situation for all three individuals," the spokeswoman said.
Dozens of North Koreans fleeing famine and repression at home have evaded Chinese guards and asked for asylum at foreign embassies in Beijing in the past two months.
On April 26, two asylum-seekers who entered the U.S. Embassy in Beijing were allowed to leave for South Korea.
Others have been allowed to leave for the South after asking for refuge at the embassies of Spain and Germany.
