No Clemens Testimony Until At Least Feb. 13

For all those betting that baseball great (former?) Roger Clemens will ne ver testify before Congress on allegations that he used steroids and human growth hormone, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has bought you a little more time.

The Jan. 16 hearing that Clemens was "invited" to appear at has been postponed until Feb. 13. That is after the sentencing date for Kirk Radomski, a former N.Y. Mets clubhouse employee who was one of the major sources of info on ballplayer steroid use in the recently released report by former Sen. George Mitchell (D-Maine). Radomski has pleaded guilty to illegally distributing a controlled substance and is cooperating with federal investigators.

"The Oversight Committee will postpone the hearing until February 13, 2008, which is after the sentencing of Kirk Radomski," said Reps. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) and Tom Davis (R-Va.) in a joint statement. "The witnesses to be invited to the rescheduled hearing are Brian McNamee, Kirk Radomski, Andy Pettittee, Chuck Knoblauch and Roger Clemens. In preparation for the hearing, we will ask each witness to provide the Committee with a deposition. Postponing the hearing will provide additional time to coordinate the committee's investigation with the Justice Department's ongoing efforts."

The committee also announced that a Jan. 15 hearing with Mitchell, MLB Commissioner Bud Selig and MLB Players' Union President Donald Fehr is still being held as scheduled.
