No. 13 UCLA Drains Louisville


Baron Davis scored a game-high 25 points and had six assists as No. 13 UCLA defeated No. 24 Louisville 82-70 Saturday.

Davis hit 7-of-8 shots from the field, including his only 3-point attempt, and 10-of-15 from the free-throw line as the Bruins won their second straight in the series between two of the most storied teams in college basketball.

Earl Watson had 18 points, Jerome Moiso 17 and Ray Young 10 as UCLA (14-4) won for the 12th time in its last 14 games.

  • Cameron Murray and Nate Johnson each scored 20 points for Louisville (10-5). Alex Sanders added 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

    The loss was Louisville's second straight on its home floor since entering the Top 25 on Monday. The Cardinals (10-5) were thumped 81-55 by No. 3 Cincinnati on Thursday.

    The two teams combined for 47 turnovers and 40 foul shots in a game that was ugly from the opening moments. The Cardinals turned the ball over 27 times, including six in the opening moments of the second half to help UCLA take over the game.

    UCLA trailed 38-31 at halftime on 30 percent shooting from the field. The Bruins opened the second half with a 6-0 run and soon after used an 11-2 run - punctuated by consecutive dunks off turnovers by Moiso, Davis and Watson - to go up 53-44 with 12:52 remaining.

    The Cardinals closed to within six at the 10 minute mark but would get no closer.

    The Bruins committed only eight turnovers and shot 67 percent from the field in the second half to improve to 48 percent shooting for the game.

    Trailing 17-11, Louisville scored nine straight points in less than a minute to force a Bruins timeout with 8:47 to play in the first half. The Cardinals built the lead to 34-26 with 1:45 to play and led by seven at halftime.
