N.J. "most wanted" sex offender arrested in Pa. after 22 years

NEWARK, N.J. - Police in New Jersey said they have arrested a man who has been on the state's "most wanted" list for over two decades, reports CBS New York.

The fugitive unit of the New Jersey State Police arrested James Wade Barclay in Pennsylvania on Saturday, concluding a multi-agency investigation.

Barclay was originally arrested in Cinnaminson Township, N.J. in 1989 and was charged with sexually assaulting a 10-year-old, the station reports. Police said he pleaded guilty to the charges but failed to appear for sentencing in September 1991.

According to CBS New York, authorities learned in recent weeks that Barclay had allegedly been living under the alias James C. Toryone and was working as a tractor-trailer driver.

The South Jersey Times reports that the investigation to find the fugitive led to a Stop 'N Ride parking lot in Boswell, Pa., where state police staked out the scene. Detectives rotated shifts for three days before eventually finding Barclay leaving a parked tractor-trailer and arresting him. Barclay tried to use his alias at first, state police said, but then admitted his true identity.

"This arrest demonstrates our unwavering commitment to capture wanted fugitives," said Col. Rick Fuentes.

Barclay is jailed in Somerset County on a $5 million bond awaiting extradition to New Jersey.
