NJ mall carjack-murder suspects due in court

NEWARK, New Jersey – An arraignment is scheduled today at Essex County Superior Court for the four men accused of carjacking and murdering a Hoboken resident at the Mall at Short Hills, reports NJ.com.

Kevin Roberts, 35, Basim Henry, 32, Karif Ford, 31, and Hanif Thompson, 29, are facing weapons, carjacking and murder charges in the Dec. 15 killing of Dustin Friedland, a 30-year-old lawyer, while allegedly attempting to steal his vehicle.

Friedland was shot outside the mall after shopping with his wife, who was in their 2012 Range Rover when the shooting occurred, say prosecutors.

Of the four men charged, three were identified and arrested in New Jersey in the days following the incident.  Henry, a resident of Newark, was found at a hotel in Easton, Pa.

The defendants are being held at the Essex County Jail.  Bail has previously been set for each suspect at $2 million.
