(CBS News) Nicki Minaj has been has been caught up in a very public battle ever since pulling out of the annual Summer Jam concert on Sunday, hosted by New York City radio station WHQT Hot 97.

It all started when Hot 97 radio jock Peter Rosenberg criticized Minaj on the air before the show, suggesting her single "Starships" was not "real hip hop."

Soon after, Lil Wayne decided that his label roster, including Minaj, wouldn't perform at Summer Jam in East Rutherford, N.J. last weekend. Longtime Hot 97 DJ Funkmaster Flex took the stage in their place, but he also bashed Minaj during his set at MetLife Stadium.

On Monday night, Minaj called into the radio station to clear the air in an hour-long interview with Funkmaster Flex.

The chat started out heated with Minaj saying, "After that disrespect, I still was going on that stage. And you know what? Shame on me. Lil Wayne gave me a valuable lesson on self-worth."

"When you want our team to come to your show, treat us with respect," Minaj told Funkmaster Flex. "And that's all we're asking. We're not asking for any special treatment. Just respect. And I'm very proud of my team, and the way they stood behind me."

For his part, Funkmaster Flex said, "Rosenberg didn't pick the right time and place to say that." But he pointed out that pulling out of the show hurt fans.

Meanwhile, Rosenberg refused to apologize for his remarks about Minaj's music.

"I was in the zone of doing real hip-hop," he said. "I'm absolutely not apologizing, because I didn't do anything wrong." Rosenberg noted that he had the same position on Minaj's music six months ago and that he wasn't going to change his position because she was this year's Summer Jam headliner.

In the end, Minaj announced she would play a special show for fans in New York.

Later, Minaj told another radio station, New York's WWPR Power 105, that her make-up show is still in the works, adding, "but it's definitely gonna happen. This was actually Wayne's suggestion. Wayne was like, 'Yo, we can do our own show for the people. You don't have to feel bad.' '"

She also took to Twitter to address the situation:
