(CBS/AP) JACKSONVILLE, Ark. - Authorities say a man armed with a knife forced his way onto a school bus as it picked up children in central Arkansas, then drove it several miles while police pursed.

Police say 11 elementary school children and the driver were aboard when 22-year-old Nicholas John Miller got onto the bus Thursday morning in Jacksonville, a Little Rock suburb.

According to CBS affiliate KTHV, Miller first tried to hijack a civilian's car but the woman he targeted did not have a vehicle. A school bus made its scheduled stop at around the same time and that's when Miller jumped on with some sort of knife, according to Jacksonville spokeswoman, April Kiser.

Kiser said Miller pulled over only after seeing police spike strips on the road. She says no one was injured and it's unclear why the suspect boarded the bus.

Miller was reportedly arrested on charges of vehicle piracy, 12 counts of kidnapping and two counts of aggravated assault.

KTHV reports that Miller has been arrested by Jacksonville in the past for terroristic threatening, possession of drug paraphernalia, and breaking or entering/theft of property.
