Newest Lawmaker Joins The House
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will swear in the newest House member Tuesday as Democrats welcome Rep.-elect Laura Richardson to Washington to fill the seat formerly occupied by deceased California Rep. Juanita Millender-McDonald.
Richardson triumphed in a bitterly-fought contest to replace the former chairwoman of the House Administration Committee after her death in April following a quiet battle with cancer.
Pelosi will officially swear Richardson in during an afternoon ceremony and then perform a mock swearing-in later Tuesday evening on the House floor when most members will be present for votes.
