New Poll Shows Sununu Trailing By Double-digits

Another newly-released poll in New Hampshire suggests that former New Hampshire governor Jeanne Shaheen would be a formidable opponent against Sen. John Sununu (R-N.H.).

The CNN/WMUR poll, which surveyed 524 New Hampshire voters between July 9-17, shows Shaheen leading Sununu by a 54 to 38 percent margin. Sununu holds narrow leads but polls well under 50 percent against his two declared Democratic opponents. He leads former House nominee Katrina Swett 43-39 percent and 42-38 percent over Portsmouth mayor Steve Marchand.

The poll also shows Sununu has hit a new low in his favorability rating. Only 43 percent of New Hampshire voters had a favorable opinion of Sununu, while 35 percent have an unfavorable opinion.

The poll is consistent with earlier polls giving Shaheen with a sizable lead against Sununu. She is expected to decide her future plans sometime in September.
