New musical in development featuring music from John Denver

(CBS) A new musical set to feature music and lyrics by the late folk singer/songwriter John Denver, with a storyline from a book by Stewart F. Lane, is reportedly in development.

Industry readings of the new musical entitled "A Moment in Time," were presented Oct. 20-21 in New York City, Playbill.com reports.

The 11-member cast for last week's reading included Drake Bell (Nickelodeon's Drake and Josh), Robert Cuccioli (Jekyll & Hyde, Les Miserables), Liz Larsen (Hairspray, The Most Happy Fella) and Lindsay Pierce (The Glee Project, Glee).

According to Playbill.com, the music features some of Denver's greatest hits including "Annie's Song," "Sunshine on My Shoulders," "Rocky Mountain High," "Thank God I'm a Country Boy," "Leaving on a Jet Plane," "Calypso" and "Take Me Home, Country Roads."

The musical is said to follow the story of a mortally wounded Marine in Afghanistan who remembers a happier time with his family in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and finds a reason to live through those memories, reports BroadwayWorld.com.

Plans are in the development for a fully staged version of "A Moment in Time."
