N.J. Dunkin' Donuts burglar calls cops on himself, police say
JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, N.J. -- A New Jersey man allegedly tried to steal lottery tickets from a Dunkin' Donuts store, but luck was not on his side, reports CBS Philly.
According to the station, authorities say 31-year-old Jeffrey Mathesius was arrested for the crime -- a crime police say Mathesius actually called to report.
Jefferson Township Police say they received a call for a burglary in progress at the Dunkin' Donuts on Sept. 13. When they arrived on the scene, officers found the front door of the shop was smashed and glass was all over the floor. They also found blood on the floor and behind the cash register and near the lottery tickets sold at the store, reports CBS Philly.
According to investigators, the suspect went across the street to a convenience store and entered the bathroom to clean off the blood, the station reported.
Police say while interviewing Mathesius about what he witnessed they noticed he had cuts on his hands and arms, and was also found to be in possession of a ball peen hammer and a backpack filled with lottery tickets. He was then arrested and charged with burglary and theft.
