New Date For Moroccan Open
The Moroccan Open, which was originally scheduled for March 18-21, will move to the empty slot opposite the U.S. Open, June 17-20.
Ken Schofield, Executive Director of the European Tour, said: "We have agreed to this request from the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation to move to this new date, which ensures the successful continuity of a valuable National Championship. Hopefully any possible inconvenience by this date change can be minimized and we appreciate the co-operation of all parties involved."
The ninth edition of the Moroccan Open will, therefore, for the third year in succession, and the sixth time in all, take place at Golf Royal D'Agadir where in 1998 Australian Stephen Leaney gained his maiden European Tour win with an eight stroke triumph ahead of Sweden's Robert Karlsson and Mathias Grönberg.
Golf Royal D'Agadir, which was designed by Robert Trent Jones, wends its way through eucalyptus forests and bullrushes almost as far as the ocean.
The course, which can be anticipated by June to be in outstanding condition, belongs to King Hassan II and is built within the shadows of the castle walls.
