New Book, Familiar Themes

Jackie Collins' new novel, "Deadly Embrace," which hit bookstores June 11, picks up where her last novel "Lethal Seduction" left off and races from Beverly Hills to Las Vegas to New York, and to Europe.

Collins appears on The Saturday Early Show to discuss her lastest work which features a beautiful journalist held hostage in a Beverly Hills restaurant; her father, who is wanted for two murders and may have mob connections; a teen-age wild-child who is jet setting through Europe; an ex-showgirl; and assorted movie stars.

Collins says this new novel grew out of a personal experience. Several years ago, when she was with two friends, she was held up by a masked gunman with an Uzi.

"Deadly Embrace" begins when the lead character stumbles into a holdup at a posh L.A. restaurant, where a drug-crazed man with an Uzi and a foul mouth holds the patrons hostage.

Collins has been writing steamy stories since she was 15. She has written 21 bestsellers, several of which have been made into films. Her next book will be called "Hollywood Divorces," she said.

Sister of actress Joan Collins, Collins lives in Los Angeles Her hobbies are photography, soul music, and exploring exotic locations so she can write about them later.
