Nets Rally, Beat Sixers 105-98
Sam Cassell had 30 points and 11 assists, and his teammates finally found their range in the fourth quarter, as New Jersey rallied for a 105-98 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night.
After shooting 29-for-81 through the first three quarters, the Nets climbed back from 14 points down. Kerry Kittles scored 11 of his 22 points in the final quarter and Kendall Gill hit two key 3s.
Cassell sealed the win with a baseline jumper that put New Jersey ahead 100-95 with 24 seconds left.
Jayson Williams had 17 points and 24 rebounds for New Jersey, which shot 39 percent overall and took 102 shots.
Tim Thomas had a career-high 27 points for Philadelphia and Allen Iverson had 26 before being ejected with 15.7 seconds left after getting a second technical foul, for arguing an out-of-bounds call. Derrick Coleman added 18 points and grabbed 16 rebounds.
Theo Ratliff blocked seven shots, many by Keith Van Horn, and held the Nets' rookie to 16 points on 5-for-19 shooting in his first visit to Philadelphia, a team he scorned this summer. The 76ers drafted Van Horn No. 2 in June, then traded him to New Jersey in an eight-player deal.
The Nets, down by 10 at the half, tied it at 73-73 with a 17-6 run to end the third quarter. Cassell keyed the spurt, shaking himself free off of screens for a pair of layups and a 13-foot runner.
Philadelphia went on a 11-1 run to take an 11-point lead at the start of the second quarter and went into halftime up 54-44.
