NC teen Rebecca Blackmore charged in newborn girl's stabbing death
(CBS/AP) KNOTTS ISLAND, N.C. - Police in North Carolina have arrested 16-year-old Rebecca Blackmore, who is accused of stabbing her newborn baby girl to death.
The Currituck County teenager is being held on $500,000 bond on a charge of first-degree murder.
Currituck County Sheriff Susan Johnson says the incident happened on June 17. Blackmore was admitted to the emergency room at Chesapeake General Hospital in Virginia, saying she had given birth and that the child had died.
Currituck deputies found the baby's body in a closet at Blackmore's Knotts Island home.
Johnson says an autopsy completed Monday showed that stab wounds caused the newborn's death.
The court clerk's office says Blackmore next court appearance is scheduled for July 6.
