N.C. Middle Schooler Had "Hit List," Say Police

(CBS/WBTV)  Police in Salisbury, North Carolina say a 13-year-old has been charged after a potential "hit list" was found at a middle school, containing the names of several students and a teacher, according to CBS affiliate WBTV.

According to Salisbury Police Chief Rory Collins, officers were called to Knox Middle School after a student found the list in one of the school's bathrooms.

The list was titled "187 List"; officers told WBTV the term "187" has been known to mean "murder" and immediately took the list to be considered a potential "hit list."

Officers say they believe the list was left so that it would be found. The 13-year-old believed to be behind it has been charged with communicating threats.

Police haven't yet determined if the list was truly intended to be a threat, as opposed to a joke, but it is being taken very seriously by police and the Rowan-Salisbury School system, WBTV reported.

The students who were named on the list, along with their parents, as well as the teacher named, have all been notified.
