Name Game a Non-Starter for Montana Suspect; Uses Alias of Wanted Man, Gets Arrested Anyway
GREAT FALLS, Mont. (CBS/AP) If you're planning to use an alias when committing a crime, you should probably choose the name of someone who is not also being sought by the authorities.
Law enforcement officials in Montana say a man named Jonothan Ray Gonsalez, who had three outstanding warrants for his arrest, gave officers a phony name during a traffic stop last Monday. Gonzalez wound up in custody anyway because he chose the alias, Timothy Michael Koop Jr.
Police figured out that Koop was wanted in a neighboring county, and that's when Jonothon Ray Gonsalez got arrested anyway.
Follow?
According to court records, this misdirection play occurred last Monday in Great Falls.
Police say a search of Mr. "my name is not Gonsalez" after his arrest turned up half a gram of methamphetamine, and he was charged with criminal possession of dangerous drugs.
The Great Falls Tribune reports Gonsalez did ultimately give his real name on Tuesday, so a charge of issuing a false report to law enforcement was added.
Double gotcha.
