NEW YORK (CBS) "Jenkins is an animal, and what he has done to Jasmine is unspeakable," a tearful Robert Hasman said of the man police believe murdered his former girlfriend, swimsuit model Jasmine Fiore.

Fiore was found Aug 15. stuffed in a bloody suitcase in a California dumpster, strangled to death.

Family and friends of the murdered beauty stood with their arms wrapped around one another during a press conference Thursday, their heads hung low as they wiped away tears.

Hasman, who said he knew Jasmine for two-and-a-half years, expressed her family's plea for help in finding prime suspect Ryan Alexander Jenkins, who is Fiore's ex-husband and was a contestant on the cancelled VH1 show, "Megan Wants a Millionaire."

"This message goes out to the family, his mother and father and to the friends that are trying to help him leave this country … Please understand who you're helping … we ask for your support to bring Ryan to custody," Hasman said.

Those close to Jasmine say that some media outlets are dispensing false information about the former swimsuit model. Hasman returned to the podium to describe the Jasmine he and her family loved.

"Jasmine was a beautiful person. She was a very caring individual. She loved her family and friends. A lot of the information you're seeing in the news is not true. We had a very close relationship for a long time and she is just a beautiful person. She had a lot going for her," he said, choking up.

Authorities have already charged the former swimsuit model's ex-husband Jenkins, 32, with her murder.

There is now a manhunt going on for Jenkins, who is Canadian, and who is believed to have fled the country.

Fiore and Jenkins were briefly married after a quickie Las Vegas wedding this year, and had been fighting in recent months. Prosecutors said the two checked into a San Diego hotel last Thursday and Jenkins checked out the next morning. Fiore was not seen alive again.

The two met in Las Vegas after Jenkins appeared in the reality show "Megan Wants a Millionaire." The couple got married on March 18, 2009 said Fiore's mother, Lisa Lepore.
