NEW YORK (CBS) Red, white and spangles stood out on the red carpet at the MTV Movie Awards Sunday night in Los Angeles with high fashion marks going to Sandra Bullock, Scarlett Johansson, Anna Kendrick and Cameron Diaz, among others.

Who could have done better? Blue-haired Katy Perry ruined a good glittery see-through outfit with her wig, and the awards' princess, Kristen Stewart, looked as if she just walked out of gym class.

Trends of the night had a decidedly patriotic tone with red and white dominating along with a smattering of blue, such as in Perry's wig. And spangles ruled.

Sandra Bullock, the star of the night, also was queen of spangles in a shiny, backless, black mini that prompted presenter Betty White, Bullock's co-star in "The Proposal," to wisecrack that Bullock shouldn't turn the dress around in the future.

Also sparkling at the awards show were Betty Whte, Audrina Patridge, Eva Mendes and Lindsay Lohan, who used a sparkly silver jumpsuit to hide her SCRAM bracelet.

Rocking in red was Breakout Star winner Anna Kendrick (in a Zac Posen frock), Miranda Cosgrove and Lo Bosworth. Cameron Diaz also had some red in her floral print baby-doll dress

Walking down the red carpet in white were Paris Hilton (sister Nicky wore pale green) and Vanessa Hudgens.

Kristen Stewart was the nominee who made the most trips to the stage to accept awards, giving the TV audience ample opportunity to see - and grimace at - her lackluster choice of clothing. In addition to the Dolce & Gabana minidress, she wore green nail polish and an unadorned pony tail.

Tees were the order of the day for the male stars, though each star found ways to add his own stamp to the look. Taylor Lautner, for example, accessorized with a leather jacket; Robert Pattinson with a black shirt and Bradley Cooper with a Gucci navy jacket .
