Movin', Groovin', Arson!

An employee of James Brown Enterprises was charged with setting the fire that damaged the soul-music legend's office and destroyed some master tapes and memorabilia.

Richard Glenn, 29, was arrested Tuesday and charged with arson, forgery and theft. Richmond County authorities said he started the fire to destroy evidence that connected him to a $75,000 stolen check.

The April 28 fire destroyed the preacher's robe Brown wore in the movie the The Blues Brothers, a pair of boxing gloves from the set of Rocky IV, in which Brown performed a song, and master tapes of unreleased material, including a live concert at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem, Brown's attorney said.

The stolen check was made out to Brown's company from Pepsi-Cola, Richmond County sheriff's Maj. Ken Autry said. Glenn deposited it in an Augusta bank account he had opened in his and Brown's names, then withdrew the money, Autry said.

The theft was discovered when Brown's staff noticed the Pepsi money was missing, Autry said.

Brown's concerts and programming for a local radio station are coordinated at the office.
