Movies Of 2005: One Man's Picks

We've all heard the advice: "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." Well, the people at The Early Show asked entertainment contributor Jess Cagle, who is also a senior editor at People magazine, to say some nice things and some not-so-nice things about the movies of 2005.

Here are his Top Five:

1. "Brokeback Mountain." But will it be the front-runner for Oscar?

2. "Capote."

3. "Crash."

4. "Pride and Prejudice."

5. "Munich."

Cagle's list of the WORST movies of 2005:

1. "Aeon Flux."

2. "Bewitched."

3. "A Lot Like Love."

4. "Syriana." Cagle qualifies this choice by saying that it was not really among the worst but it was his biggest disappointment. (On the flip side of that, he says his greatest guilty pleasure of the year was "The 40-Year Old Virgin.")

FAVORITE PERFORMANCES:

Best Actor: Philip Seymour Hoffman in "Capote."

Best Actress: Dame Judi Dench in "Mrs. Henderson Presents."

Best Couple: Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon in "Walk the Line."

And to which movies is Cagle most looking forward in 2006?

"Well, first on my list is 'Dreamgirls,' and I can't wait to see 'Superman Returns,'" he says.
