Morning Maneuvering On Immigration
Senators continue to try to reach a bipartisan deal on immigration.
Staffers, who apparently worked through the night, hit a few bumps in the wee morning hours, congressional aides report.
The senators gathered this morning for a series of meetings, hoping to iron out the last remaining details of the bill, which Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) said is more than 350 pages at this point. They met in the Russell office building, then broke for votes, before returning to a room at the Capitol.
The Senate press gallery is reserved for a 12:30 press conference with Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.), but aides said they did that just in case something would gel this morning.
We'll see.
