More charges for Montessori teacher accused of sexual relationship with student, 14
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Police in North Carolina say a teacher accused last month of having a sexual relationship with a teen student is facing more charges.
Nicholas Conlon Smith, 36, was accused in early November of having the improper relationship in 2011 and 2012 while he was a teacher at Montessori School of Raleigh middle school in Durham, with a victim who was 14 at the time, CBS North Carolina reports.
He was initially charged with four counts of statutory rape of a victim with age difference of more than 5 years and two counts sex offense involving a student, warrants say. Police have now added a charge of first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, the station reports.
Smith is currently a math teacher and has worked at the Montessori middle and upper School since 2006, the station reports. He was questioned at school Nov. 7 when the allegations surfaced and was then suspended without pay, the station reports.
