MONTECITO, Calif. -- A family of five, including a newborn baby, were rescued following a dangerous mudslide in Monecito Tuesday, CBS Los Angeles reports. The mudslides came as heavy rains hit the fire-scarred hills above the city.

At least 15 people were confirmed dead, Santa Barbara County spokeswoman Yaneris Muniz said early Wednesday, The Associated Press reports. At least 25 people were injured and at least 50 people had to be rescued by helicopters.

Emergency responders are reporting incredible stories of survival. Video from the Coast Guard shows a family of five -- including a newborn, two other small children, and their mother and father, as well as the family's two dogs -- as they're rescued from a rooftop.

Some families reportedly waited on the roof for 45 minutes and watched their cars roll away in the mud.

One neighbor told a local news station he found a 2-year-old trapped several feet under the mud. He described the toddler as a "muddy doll," CBS Los Angeles reports.
