Missouri Jail Escape: Convicted Killer Carlos Sarmiento, 2 Others Escape

PATTONSBURG, Mo. (CBS/AP) Police are searching for convicted murderer Carlos Sarmiento and two other inmates who escaped from a northwest Missouri jail by crawling under a fence.

The inmates, who were wearing orange jumpsuits, escaped from the Daviess/DeKalb County jail in Pattonsburg Sunday evening, the Daviess County Sheriff's office said.

One of the escaped convicts was 57-year-old Sarmiento, of Jamesport, who was convicted Sept. 15 for first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Lance L. Davis. Sarmiento was scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 19.

Davis' body was found Feb. 17, 2009, at a home he shared with Sarmiento in Jamesport. Prosecutors said Sarmiento killed Davis by hitting him in the back of the head with a hammer.

He is described as a Hispanic male, 5-feet-9 inches, 140 pounds with brown hair. Sarmiento sports a tattoo with Spanish words on his right arm and a woman's head with a sombrero tattooed on his left arm.

The other escaped convicts were Nicholas D. McCleary, 26, who was jailed for a previous attempt to escape from prison; and Timothy J. Baudour, 34, who was convicted in an assault case from Livingston County.

Officials say McCleary is white, 5-foot-7, 184 pounds with blonde hair, He has a tattoo of a swastika and skull on his chest, a teardrop tattoo under his right eye, two lightning-bolts under his left eye, and a Maltese cross on his left hand.

Baudour is white, 6-feet-3, 200 pounds, with brown hair and tattoos on his stomach, chest and right arm. He has a tattoo of a Midwest hustler on his stomach, the word "Mexico" on his upper chest, and "Tigger" on his right arm.

Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers joined the department and sheriff's deputies from law enforcement agencies in Clinton, DeKalb, Harrison and other counties in the search.
