Minn. cop is a BMXer who can land a 360

(CBS) MINNEAPOLIS - He's a BMX biker from Wyoming, Minnesota.

Scott Booecker is also known as the 45-year-old police officer who can stick a 360, thanks to a video of his biking exploits that recently went viral.

CBS Minnesota says the small-town cop just might be known the world over after a YouTube video that collected half a million hits.

The station reports that during his lunch hour, you'll find Officer Booecker jumping gaps and turning 360s at local Goodview Park.

One teen's camera caught him in action two weeks ago, and his motorcross methods quickly travelled from Facebook, to Youtube...then to ESPN2 and Yahoo News.

"I started when I was 7 BMX racing," Officer Booecker told CBS Minnesota.

He said he uses it to get through to kids.

"Show the kids we are not just police officers, we're BMX era, skate boarders, different things," he said.

"I'm not only impressed, I'm actually pretty proud," his boss, Police Chief Paul Hoppe said.

"It's not traditional, pass out the fliers, go to the community block parties," he said. "It's really about an officer getting out of his squad car, engaging the community."

Booecker said a lot of kids are surprised to see a 45-year-old BMX-er.

The chief says when other bikers see Booecker they start picking up trash and tidying up the park.

As for Booecker's next move?

"Maybe start jumping people," he joked.
