Mick Back, Fans Get Satisfaction
Mick Jagger recovered enough from the flu to join the Rolling Stones on stage Sunday for the first British concert in the band's latest world tour.
Saturday's "Forty Licks" concert at Twickenham rugby field in southwest London was canceled because of the 60-year-old Jagger's illness, forcing 50,000 fans to settle for a rescheduled appearance Sept. 20.
It was not the first health setback on the tour.
Last week, a concert in Amsterdam, Netherlands, was scrapped because of Jagger's sore throat and a previous gig in Spain was dropped when Sir Mick suffered laryngitis.
But Jagger and fellow band members — guitarist Keith Richards, 59; rhythm guitarist Ronnie Wood, 56; and drummer Charlie Watts, 62 — showed few signs of exhaustion or illness Sunday night as they performed some of the hits that have kept the band popular for four decades.
Despite a lingering sore throat, Jagger bounded around the stage at Twickenham like a teenager. In the audience, middle-aged mothers and fathers danced in styles not seen at British nightclubs for years.
