Michigan woman arrested in adult son's grisly death

DETROIT - A suburban Detroit woman was being held in connection with the death of her adult son, whose dismembered remains were found dumped in trash bags along the sides of roads, police said.

The names of the 59-year-old woman and the 32-year-old victim were not released, but St. Clair Shores police said they were mother and son.

The woman, who lives in St. Clair Shores just east of Detroit, faces murder and dismemberment charges. She hasn't been officially charged. Police said prosecutors in Macomb County are expected to review a warrant with the charges Monday.

The victim was reported missing Jan. 26 and identified through fingerprints.

"Fingerprints taken from the dismembered white male were forwarded to the FBI and compared with previous fingerprints taken from the missing 32-year-old St. Clair Shores resident," St. Clair Shores police said Saturday in a release.

A cause of death was not released.

The man's remains were found Thursday along the sides of roads in St. Clair and China townships, about 50 miles northeast of Detroit in St. Clair County. Someone had reported seeing a woman dumping trash bags along a roadway.

"Deputies and detectives from the sheriff's office responded and discovered garbage bags containing body parts," the St. Clair County sheriff's office said Friday in a statement.

Investigators had asked the public for help and received a tip about a heavy-set, middle-aged woman who was driving a gray or tan Chevy Blazer.

St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon told CBS station WWJ that tip was the straw that "broke the camel's back" and enabled authorities to zero in on a suspect.
