Michigan man charged with torturing, killing sister
DEARBORN, Mich. - A 23-year-old Michigan man is charged with first-degree murder and torture in the death of his sister, reports CBS Detroit.
Wayne County Prosecutors say Haron Elmawri strangled and then stabbed 30-year-old Asyh Elmawri multiple times Saturday afternoon at a home in Dearborn, Mich., according to the station.
Haron Elmawri was arrested at the scene after other family members called 911, the station reports.
The suspect was arraigned Monday in Michigan's 19th District Court, where the judge set bond at $1 million, with the condition that the man must wear a GPS tether if he posts bail.
Police have not commented on any potential motive behind the killing. CBS Detroit reports the investigation is ongoing.
"This appears to be a domestic violence incident that escalated," Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said in a media release. "Our hearts go out to the family of the victim."
Haron Elmawri is due back in court Aug. 8 for a preliminary hearing, according to the station.
