(CBS/AP) Michael Jackson's mother says she is returning to her family's Indiana hometown to celebrate what would have would have been her son's 54th birthday.

Katherine Jackson's rep says the events in Gary, Ind., will be attended by the singer's three children as well.

A candlelight vigil is planned for Aug. 29 outside the family's home on Jackson's 54th birthday.

The celebration is being dubbed: "Goin' Back to Indiana: Can You Feel It?"

Details on the events, including a tribute concert and an event honoring Katherine Jackson, are posted on a Facebook page for the event.

The Jackson family moved to Los Angeles as Michael Jackson and other siblings pursued their burgeoning music careers, but have kept connections to their Indiana hometown.

The announcement comes in the midst of a family drama that's playing out in public. This week, Jackson's estate revealed it had limited some relatives' access to the home shared by the singer's mother and children in the wake of a family feud that turned into a recent driveway argument.

Katherine Jackson was out of contact with the children for roughly 10 days while at an Arizona spa, which prompted a missing person's report and concerns about her health.

TJ Jackson, the late singer's nephew, plans to become a co-guardian in an agreement reached last week after Katherine Jackson returned to the home.

Katherine Jackson's attorney Perry Sanders Jr. said last week that TJ Jackson would take over day-to-day operations and staff oversight at the Calabasas home.
