Michael Douglas Set to Appear on "Stand Up To Cancer" Telethon

NEW YORK (CBS) Actor Michael Douglas has signed on to join a bevy of stars at this week's "Stand Up to Cancer" telethon.

A rep for Douglas confirmed to Access Hollywood that he will make an appearance at the Sept. 10 multi-network TV charity event which aims to raise money for cancer research.

Douglas, 65, was recently diagnosedwith throat cancer. He is currently undergoing radiation and chemotherapy to treat a walnut-sized tumor at the base of his tongue. "It's a fight," he told People magazine. "It really knocks you out."

He will join a mix of Hollywood celebs, athletes, and musicians.

Among the many who have signed on to appear are actors Denzel Washington, Renee Zellweger, George Clooney, Will Smith, Seth Rogen, and Reese Witherspoon.

Cancer survivors Christina Applegate, Michael C. Hall, Maura Tierney, Lance Armstrong, Elizabeth Edwards, "Survivor" winner Ethan Zohn, and Sofia Vergara are also set to participate.

Since its launch in 2008, the "Stand Up To Cancer" campaign has raised more than $100 million for cancer research.

This year's telethon will be hosted by Katie Couric, Brian Williams and Diane Sawyer.

"Stand Up to Cancer" will air live without commercials on Sept. 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, HBO, and E!, among other cable channels.
