(CBS) PONTIAC, Mich. - An 8-year-old Michigan boy called 911 to report that a couple of would-be robbers broke into his family's home, CBS Detroit reports.

"A dude came to my house with a gun, and tell my mama to lay down," the child told the dispatcher. "I'm at the neighbor's house and the dude's in my house..."

When the operator asked the boy how old he was, he responded, "Eight. And I'm still short."

Oakland County Sheriff's officials say four children were at home with their mother when two alleged burglars entered the home in northeast Pontiac.

The 8-year-old was able to escape and run next door to call for help.

When the 911 dispatcher asked to speak to the neighbor, she told the dispatcher, "I don't know what's going on. This little boy just beat on my door and he asked for help and I let him in."

The boy's mother later told police that the intruders forced her to the floor, demanded money and then took off when they couldn't find anything of value.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Oakland County Undersheriff Mike McCabe says the suspects are still being sought, CBS Detroit reports.
