MetroStars Coach Steps Down

Bora Milutinovic resigned as coach of the New York-New Jersey MetroStars Friday following the worst season in the team's four-year history.

Milutinovic and the Major League Soccer team "have mutually agreed to part ways," the team said in a statement.

"Bora and I have concluded that this decision is in everyone's best interest," Charlie Stillitano, the team's vice president and general manager, said.

The MetroStars finished this season 7-25, one of the worst records in league history

Milutinovic, who has led the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica and Nigeria into the second round of the World Cup, will be replaced by assistant Fernando Clavijo.

Milutinovic was the team's fifth coach in four years. His two-year contract was to expire next season.
