Metropolitan Museum of Art to show photo manipulation before Photoshop
(CBS News) Yes, photo manipulation was around even before the invention of Adobe Photoshop.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City is launching an exhibit on Oct. 11 that features manipulated photos before the digital age.
The exhibit, Faking It: Manipulated Photography Before Photoshop, is the first major exhibit devoted to photo manipulation before computers and software made the process easier. Ironically, or perhaps in a move to show how valuable its software is, the makers of Photoshop - Adobe Systems - made the exhibit possible.
In the past photographers had to rely on darkroom tricks like multiple exposure, combination printing and painting the negative or print. With the advent of software like Photoshop, it became much easier manipulate photos without wasting resources due to trial and error.
Faking It: Manipulated Photography Before Photoshop, will run from Oct. 11, 2012 to Jan. 27, 2013. More information can be found at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's website.
