From the looks of some of the deals going around this Memorial Day holiday, you'd think retailers are starting Black Friday six months ahead of schedule. And with shopping the third highest consumer spending category this long weekend -- following travel and food & beverages -- the timing is perfect. (And not a bad time to get a head start on that Father's Day present).
Here's a roundup of some of the hottest discounts and offers this holiday. Just remember: A deal is only a deal if you really need the item. Spending less is still spending!

Clothing & Accessories
- Old Navy is tacking an extra 30 to 50% off all clearance items. Plus, if you go to Old Navy's Facebook page you can sign up to receive $10 off any $50 purchase this weekend.
- The Children's Place is selling $5 graphic tees this weekend and giving FREE shipping on all orders through May 30th. The online store is also offering an additional 15% off with the following coupon code this weekend: W7D2011.
- Kohls.com Save an extra 15% off online with the coupon code "MemorialDay." The code expires May 30th.
- Sears is having a big Memorial Day sale bonanza, offering 30% off all Kenmore appliances and 60% off swimwear in stores and online. There are also online exclusive deals, such as up to 60% off some patio furniture. There's also free shipping on all Sears.com orders exceeding $99 with the coupon code: MemorialDay.
- American Eagle Outfitters will give you a 30% discount when you shop online with the code 82934281. This coupon expires May 30th
- AnnTaylor is offering a whopping 40% discount off already reduced merchandise both online and in stores. The coupon code is "EXTRA40"
- Macy's is having a big blowout this Memorial Day holiday, with discounts spread across most departments, including furniture, mattresses, swimsuits and cosmetics. Plus the store is offering an extra 10% off if you spend $99 or more on certain items. The promo code for that offer is "KICKOFF"
- Kate Spade outlet stores are offering 40% off through May 31.
- 6pm.com, the online shoe and clothing discount site, is offering $3.95 flat rate shipping on all purchases, as well as special discounts running through May 29, including 75% Born sandals, up to 70% Clark shoes and up to 80% off Not Your Daughter's Jeans.

- Boston Market has a special Memorial Day coupon that gives 50% off any Family Meal purchase through May 30th.
- Restaurant.com is selling $25 gift certificates for 80% off -- so they come to just $2. The promo code is "FLAG." The offer expires on May 31.
- Home Depot is having a paint sale, offering $5 off one-gallon cans and $20 off 5-gallon cans. Brands include Behr, Martha Stewart Living and Glidden. You can get your discount with this mail-in order rebate. The offer expires May 30th.
- Ace Hardware stores are offering special rebates for gardening materials this month. A list of rebates can be found here.
- Wal-mart is rolling back prices on outdoor furnishings, including patio sets, swing sets grills, and above-ground swimming pools.
- Best Buy is offering up to 30 percent off major appliances from May 29 through June 4 both in-stores and online. The retailer is also extending free delivery on appliance purchases $429 and higher.
