Winning numbers picked for $454 million Mega Millions

DES MOINES, Iowa -- A lottery official says no winning ticket was sold in Tuesday night's Mega Millions drawing.

Virginia Lottery spokesman John Hagerty tells The Associated Press that means the jackpot for the next drawing, on Friday, will be an estimated $508 million. Tuesday's was an estimated $454 million.

It marked the 34th time the jackpot has rolled over without a winner. The previous record was 22 rolls.

The Mega Millions numbers Tuesday night were white balls 29-64-46-53-73 and yellow ball 10.

Paula Otto, executive director of the Virginia Lottery and lead director for the consortium of lottery organizations that runs Mega Millions, said before the drawing that if someone had won, it would have been the 7th largest jackpot in U.S. history and the largest since a $429.6 million Powerball prize won by a New Jersey family on May 7.

The highest jackpot drawn in the country was a $1.6 billion Powerball prize won in January by players in three states.

The odds of picking the correct numbers in the Mega Millions game are one in 259 million. For Powerball, the odds are one in roughly 292 million.
