McGwire Sprains Ankle

Mark McGwire left Saturday night's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the top of the fourth inning with a sprained left ankle.

St. Louis team officials said the injury occurred in Jose Jimenez's 1-0 no-hit victory over Arizona Friday night.

They said McGwire playing availability would be evaluated on a day-to-day basis.

McGwire fouled out in the first inning, then failed to get in front of Brian Anderson's grounder at first base for an error in the bottom of the third. McGwire walked to lead off the fourth, then was replaced by Willie McGee as a pinch runner.

McGee was promptly picked off by Anderson a moment later. McGwire has played in 71 of the Cardinals' 74 games this season.
