McDermott Could Owe Boehner $880,000

Rep. Jim McDermott lost an appeal earlier this month in his decade-long legal standoff with House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) over a taped phone call the Washington state Democrat leaked to various news outlets in 1997.

Last week, the bill came due - and it’s a big one.

McDermott owes Boehner $880,000 in legal fees resulting from the protracted fight in federal court, according to a May 15 letter from Boehner’s lawyer, Michael Carvin, of the Washington office of Jones Day.
