McCain Talks Jobs in Michigan
GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. – On the heels of his victory in New Hampshire, John McCain vowed to win Michigan and committed to help create jobs and educational programs so that displaced workers were not left behind.
"My friends, as you know we had a great victory yesterday in the state of New Hampshire. The next victory has got to be right here in the state of Michigan. We won New Hampshire, we'll win Michigan, we'll win South Carolina and we will win the nomination and I will be president of the United States with your help."
McCain said he's aware of the economic difficulties Michigan residents are facing and added he wants to keep their taxes low.
"I've got to give you some straight talk. Some of the jobs that left the state of Michigan are not coming back. But I believe that we can develop a plan to take care of these workers who have lost their jobs my friends. We cannot abandon them. We cannot leave these great Americans behind," he said. "I will help you create new jobs and new education programs and ways to keep these people having productive lives with great futures and a great future for the state of Michigan. I'm committed to it."
"This state can again play a key role, we won it in 2000 and we will win it again in 2008."
