Maybe No Senate OT This Weekend Afterall

With Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) threatening all week to keep senators over the weekend to finish work on a backlog of legislation, a breakthrough today on a comprehensive energy bill means senators will likely not be working much overtime.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Reid had specifically signaled out the six presidential candidates in the Senate, suggesting they may be needed for votes in the Senate. And the overtime threat drew grumblings from Republican leaders, who accused Reid of mismanaging his agenda.

To press their case, Senate Republicans circulated a memo entitled "Meltdown," citing low approval ratings for the Democratic-led Congress and arguing that Democrats are struggling to meet their legislative goals.

Democratic leaders however, quickly turned the tables, repeatedly accusing Republicans of stalling tactics to score political points.
