Matsui Named To Energy And Commerce Committee

Rep. Doris Matsui (D-Calif.) was named to the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee Thursday, filling the seat vacated by the retiring Rep. Albert Wynn (D-Md.).

“Some of the most critical challenges facing our Nation today will be addressed through this Committee, and I thank Speaker Pelosi and my colleagues for having faith in my capability to help find real solutions for the American people. In the coming months and years, this Committee will make investments to secure a better future for hard-working Americans,” said Rep. Matsui.

With jurisdiction over a wide array of issues from global warming to gas prices to telecommunications, seats on the Energy and Commerce Committee are among the most coveted on the Hill.

The full Democratic Caucus will vote next week on the nomination.

“Congresswoman Doris Matsui brings a depth of knowledge and wealth of experience to her new position on the Energy and Commerce Committee,” Pelosi said in a statement.

“From providing health care to hard-working Americans to protecting our planet from global warming, Congresswoman Matsui will be a powerful voice for her constituents and the American people as she joins the Committee in tackling the critical challenges facing our nation.”
