Massey subsidiary security chief due in court
(CBS/AP) BECKLEY, W.Va. - The indicted security chief at Massey Energy Co.'s Upper Big Branch mine is due back in federal court.
Hughie Elbert Stover's arraignment on obstruction charges is set for 11 a.m. Tuesday in Beckley. The 60-year-old Stover is charged with lying to federal investigators and ordering another Massey employee to dispose of thousands of pages of documents relating to security at the Raleigh County mine.
Stover is the first person facing criminal charges in connection with the April 5, 2010 explosion. Twenty-nine miners died in the blast, the deadliest at a U.S. coal mine since 1970.
The tragedy remains the subject of a federal grand jury probe and civil investigations.
Richmond, Va.-based Massey has denied wrongdoing.
