(CBS/WCCO) BLAINE, Minn. - Eleven young adults have been hospitalized in Minneapolis, including one person on life support and several others in critical condition after a mass overdose of synthetic drugs, say police.

Blaine Police responded to a residence just after midnight on Thursday for a medical situation involving an alleged overdose of what authorities believe to be the designer hallucinogenic drug known as "2 C-I," according to CBS affiliate WCCO.

Police say several teens and young adults ingested the substance. Other victims reportedly fled the residence and were suffering the effects of the overdose at separate locations, according to WCCO.

In total, 11 people were transported to area hospitals.

The exact compound of the drug has not been confirmed and investigators say further tests are being performed at the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Lab.

The case remains under investigation.
