Maryland Hospital Worker Killed, Attacker on the Loose, Say Police
BETHESDA, Md. (CBS/WJZ/AP) A male employee was found stabbed to death at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Md. Saturday morning, causing Montgomery County police to lockdown the facility for hours as they searched for the assailant, who remains on the loose.
Authorities said 40-year-old Roosevelt Brockington Jr. of Lusby, about 60 miles outside Wash., D.C., was the victim of Saturday's violence. Brockington, who had worked at Suburban Hospital since 2006, was found around 10:30 a.m. in an area restricted to patients and visitors, with severe trauma to his upper body, reports CBS affiliate WJZ.
"He was pronounced dead on the scene. Montgomery County Police are conducting this suspicious death as a homicide investigation," said Lucille Baur of the Montgomery County Police.
Police have released few details about the slaying, which led to the 222-bed hospital being locked down for four hours while officers searched for suspects.
"The police conducted a thorough investigation from top to bottom, and they feel confident that there's no danger at Suburban Hospital for patients, visitors or staff," said Suburban Hospital spokesperson Ronna Borenstein-Levy.
Brockington's body was taken to the medical examiner's office in Baltimore for an autopsy. So far, investigators have not determined a motive in the slaying and have not identified any suspects, though Baur told The Washington Post that the investigation is "very active."
