TORONTO (CBS) Don't look for the actor Martin Sheen on the red carpet at this year's Toronto Film Festival.

You're more likely to find him on the picket line in front of his hotel than the red carpet in front of the theater where his latest movie "The Way" is premiering.

Workers at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, where Sheen was staying, walked out for 24 hours just as the festival was starting Thursday. Sheen grabbed a picket sign and joined the line.

"I'm much more comfortable out here than I was inside," he said., "I'm where I belong, I'm doing what I should." He is a member of the Screen Actors Guild.

Joining him on the picket line was his son, Emilio Estevez who wrote and directed "The Way" in which he and his father star. The movie is among those premiering at the Toronto Film Festival.

More than 300 films will be screened at the festival, which kicked off Thursday. Among those to watch are Clint Eastwood's "Hereafter," Robert Redford,'s "The Conspirator," Darren Aronofsky's 'Black Swan" and Woody Allen's "You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger."
